As your new mattress arrives, like a new pair of shoes, the fabric and material need to adjust to your body shape. You may even find your mattress a little firmer than in the showroom as you are the first person to sleep on your new Latex Mattress Australia mattress. This is completely normal and is standard in the mattress industry. We find that everyone is different and that goes for how long it takes to find your mattress to adjust. After a few weeks you may notice leveling within your mattress – rest assured this is not the latex but the cover conforming to your body impression. This is normal, as they are supposed to do, and shouldn’t be considered a sign that something is wrong with your new mattress. Your mattress will naturally remain firmer where you and/or your partner don’t sleep. If you and/or your partner do not sleep in the centre of your bed, the centre will remain firmer than the sides where you do sleep.

No, 100% pure and natural latex isn’t hot to sleep on. This urban myth started due to the proliferation of synthetic latex’s on the market. These products have some latex in them but this is diluted with fillers (typically chalks and clays) to reduce the cost of the product. Unfortunately, this changes the properties of the product dramatically. Some of our competitors even layer their latex with polyurethene foams. Our latex is certified 100% pure and natural with no fillers or chemicals so you are assured a cool, comfortable, and healthy nights sleep.

Our product is pure latex manufactured solely from natural rubber. Latex belongs to the species, Hevea Brazilensis, which is cultivated on a large scale in Malaysia through a planned programme of replanting, thereby ensuring a sustainable supply of natural latex from a green environment.

Yes there are different types! Latex Mattress Australia uses only 100% pure and natural latex sourced from Malaysia and manufactured using the Dunlop process. The latex is independently tested and certified by the Eco Umweltinstitut as pure and natural. This German based institute is a world-renowned authority on environmental and health related toxicity issues.

Yes. One of the fantastic properties of 100% pure and natural latex is that it is incredibly supportive without feeling too hard. It therefore moulds to the contours of your body whilst reducing pressure points. Our latex also has seven posture zones to ensure your spine stays in line while you are sleeping. Our mattresses are also recommended by leading chiropractors.

Latex is a natural product which ensures correct spinal support and alignment whilst removing pressure from hips and shoulders. Latex minimises partner disturbance and helps prevent tossing and turning. Latex is also dust mite resistant and hypoallergenic making it the ideal choice for people who suffer from asthma and allergies. Finally, a 100% pure and natural latex mattress will last far longer than an innerspring unit making them excellent value for money.

Latex Mattress Australia makes a number of different models of mattress to meet the comfort and support needs of almost anyone. Our mattresses are created using latex in various degrees of density. People with a high body weight would generally need a firm (higher density latex) mattress. Lighter people, children and older people will tend to choose a somewhat softer system.

When deciding if a mattress is too hard, too soft or just right, you’re essentially looking at two factors – support and comfort.

The line of your spine should be straight when you lie on your side, and maintain its natural curve when you lie on your back. If your mattress is too hard or too soft, your spine won’t be straight.

If the bed is too hard, you’ll get pressure points at the heavier part of your body. This can reduce blood circulation and signals your body to turn over, while the muscles in your back and neck have to work harder to keep your spine straight. After tossing around and working hard to keep your spine straight all night, you won’t feel as refreshed and relaxed when you wake.

If the bed’s too soft, you’ll need more effort to roll over, your spine won’t be properly aligned and it can also cause tension as your muscles work to compensate for lack of support.

Generally you will want to accommodate the support of the larger person over the comfort of the smaller person.

Latex Mattress Australia are able to offer a number of alternatives to cater for different comfort preferences within the one mattress. We can manipulate the layers of latex using different densities, or we can offer different densities on either side of the mattress. A specific design can be tailored to suit your individual needs.

We recommend that you turn your mattress every 3 months to ensure even wear and tear and to give you a fresh sleeping surface. There are some manufacturers who say you don’t need to turn their products. This is simply because they only have comfort layers on one side of the mattress. If only one side of the product is usable it clearly won’t last as long as a mattress which is rotated. All our pure latex mattresses are double sided.

We recommend no more than 140kg per person, or 280kg total. We design our premium mattresses with quality materials to support the weight of the majority of our customers. Heavier sleepers require better structural support, which is why we traditionally recommend a thicker and firmer density mattress. We also recommend that their mattress is reinforced by a solid foundation or platform and a sturdy frame. We recommend a sturdy base such as our adjustable base. If a slat bed frame is preferred, the spacing between them should be minimal. With heavier sleepers, regularly rotating the mattress from head-to-toe will also encourage more uniform wear.

How long a mattress and base set lasts depends on its original quality and how it is used. The performance of a poor quality set can deteriorate quickly, while you can expect top quality sets to perform well for many years. The average spring sleep set should generally last 7-10 years of nightly use.

Premium mattresses slept on nightly will provide reasonable levels of comfort and support for about 10-12 years. After that, gravity begins to takes its toll, and any mattress loses a significant amount of both comfort and support. However, due to the natural properties of latex rubber, if care is given to the mattress, it should last in excess of 20 years. The user’s size and weight does affect the longevity of the product just like the weight of the vehicle affects the mileage you will get from automobile tyres. It is important to select the correct density of latex in relation to the user’s size and weight.

Mattresses increase in cost as the materials and workmanship increase. This can be very confusing to the consumers, and there is really no industry-wide guide to buy.

Generally mattresses under $2,500 (queen size) offer minimum levels of comfort and support for adults.

When you look at a mattress purchase, you should also consider the average cost price per night (CPN) analysis. A $2,000 starter mattress that looks good today may only last a couple of years before it starts to sag. The cheap mattress ends up costing you $2.70 per night (CPN) based on 2 years use. A $3,000 premium model that easily lasts 10 years only costs you 82 cents (CPN). A $4,000 premium latex mattress that will last at least 25 years, only costs you from 46 cents per night (CPN). Using this analogy, it is easy to establish a relative value.

A good mattress supports the body in every sleep position and doesn’t narrow freedom of movement. Due to the independent cell construction, latex mattresses have the added advantage of minimising partner disturbance with movement or rolling over.

You can buy a mattress only. However, we recommend that if you are replacing your mattress, you also replace your base and mattress protector. The mattress and base work together as a single unit. The base acts as the shock absorber for the new mattress. For your new latex mattress, we recommend a slat type foundation, where the slats are not more than 75mm apart. On Queen and King size slat bases, please ensure the base also has a centre support rail running the length of the bed. We recommend solid, non-flexible timber slats for optimum support and correct comfort, as flexible slats may compromise the support and comfort feel of the latex mattress. The breathing activity of a latex mattress is important due to its natural formulation. Latex is warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Latex must be housed with good ventilation.

When buying a mattress the following tips will ensure you buy a good mattress:

  • Comfort: A mattress doesn’t have to be as hard as a board to be good for you. You’ll sleep best in a bed that offers you superior comfort as well as good support. Trust your body to tell you which bed feels best.
  • Support: Correct support is the essential ingredient for a healthy body. A good mattress and foundation will gently support your body at all points and keep your spine in the same shape as a person with good standing posture.
  • Durability: It’s the quality of the materials used and how they’re put together that determine how long a mattress and foundation will provide the comfort and support you bought them for. Latex Mattress Australia offers an unrivalled 21 year guarantee.
  • Size: Select a mattress size that gives you enough room for easy, free movement. Couples should have a queen or king size mattress to ensure both individuals have enough space to feel comfortable.
  • Set: Matching mattresses and foundations are designed to work together to enhance comfort and support. The foundation acts as a giant shock absorber, taking a great deal of wear and tear with nightly use.
  • Value: Shop for the best value, not the lowest price. “Bargain bedding” is no bargain when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep. Buying the best you can afford is a healthy investment in yourself.
